RocketsWe went to watch the Atlanta Hawks play the Houston Rockets last night at the CNN Center downtown and had a blast! It was quite a game--very close and then we pulled ahead in the fourth quarter. However, the Rockets were close behind and everyone was on their feet when we were tied with 5 seconds left on the clock. We watched in anticipation as the winning hoop was scored at the last moment. It was AWESOME!!!!

Somewhere around the beginning of the fourth quarter, I look to my right and see Kat Williams with three or four dudes walking around the section next to us, trying to get to his seats. People pulled out their phones and some brave ones asked for photos with him. We love ATL! It seems like whenever we are downtown we see someone famous! (We saw Ludacris shooting a video in Atlantic station while we were on our way to Ikea a few months ago).
We have been very busy lately. Here are a few updates:

*Sonny started medical school and is now four months in. He starts his anatomy module and cadaver dissection on Tuesday!!! He has a ton of studying to do before he cuts, so he is buckling down and getting prepared.
(Sharyl is a little queasy about it, but apparently Sonny is psyched!)

*Sharyl is still working in Marketing and Business Development, having completed a year at the Company in October!! Now, she has started a Real Estate course to get ready for the licensing exam.

*Sonny is doing his "OPEX" with an internal medicine physician who was very impressed about the extent of Sonny's knowledge on his first day (he was able to diagnose a few issues based on a cursory examination!). (An OPEX is like a type of clinical rotation where he goes once a week for a year).

*Juno is fatter than ever, and is now topping speeds of 60mph at the dog park. She likes to show off in front of the other dogs and spends most of her time running laps around them or chasing the incessant amount of tennis balls thrown by Sharyl or Sonny. She has this fun habit of flapping her ears early in the morning because she feels it is her responsibility to make sure we are out of bed on time. Also, she has been working diligently to keep the legions of squirrels in the front and back yard at bay--she believes they have secret plans for an all-out siege on the house. (I'll keep you posted as more developments from the front lines arise).
We are having our contractor remodel the kitchen and finish the hall bathroom after Sonny's awesome demo work. Sharyl enjoyed watching him swing that sledgehammer around...oooooh... um, ahem, anyway...where was I? Oh yeah, the house. So the addition to our bedroom is almost done and by next week we should have a new closet and PIMP master bath. I'm getting an island in the kitchen with new granite countertops (and AWESOME green walls, I'll post pictures soon).
It will all be complete just in time for Sonny's first week of med school. (YAY!!)

Sonny and I competed in the Callaway Gardens Sprint Triathlon over Father's Day weekend. Sonny beat me by 4 minutes with a time of 1:11:13 and we both had a blast! We got to do it with most of his family including his two brothers, our sisters in law, mom, stepdad, a nephew and a niece. Also some people from our company participated so it was fun to see everyone come across the finish line! We are training for the Tri2Remember in September that will benefit the Alzheimer's Fund. Its a little more intense than the Callaway Gardens and Turtle Crawl since its a 15 mile hilly bike ride along with a 5k run and a 600m swim. However, Sonny is a strong biker and we are training together so we can get strong and faster.Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-27806562901300459522009-05-14T20:02:00.000-07:002009-05-14T20:04:07.755-07:00Mi casa es su casaGuess What???? We closed on our house today!!! We officially own our first house. We paid 20k less than its worth and paid NOTHING (ok, $10.00) in closing costs besides our 3.5% down payment. We are both so happy about it! Now comes the fun part: choosing paint colors, decorating, buying furniture and appliances, etc. YAY! AND we still have money to save for rainy days (or preggo days) when money might be tight.Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-33075223923170893442009-03-29T17:37:00.000-07:002009-03-29T17:45:31.892-07:00Letdown/BlessingYesterday morning, Sonny and I woke up with a feeling that we needed to go by our "new" house to check it out. There was a drainage issue with the basement when we had all that snow, and I was wondering if there was mold in the basement. So we drove down there. We walked into the house and heard dripping water: the breakfast nook had a waterfall coming down just to the right of the light fixture. I ran downstairs, praying that my suspicions were unfounded. Luckily I was wearing my galoshes. There was about an inch and a half of standing water in the basement. I wanted to cry. The small drainage issue that we thought could be corrected in a Saturday afternoon was clearly more severe than we anticipated. Mold had started to form on the studs and the insulation and stucco was wet by the side entrance. Unless they come down 40k on the house so that we can fix it, we are walking away.
I am so disappointed, since I was a few weeks away from painting, decorating and accessorizing my first home. However, we both agree that this was a blessing because we found out before it was too late. Everything has been stopped--the mortgage, the appraisal--everything. We are back to square one. However, hopefully now we can find the perfect little house.
We are just praying hard to find the right place now with the little scrap of time we have left.Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-16146901783653418532009-02-09T15:04:00.000-08:002009-02-09T15:05:18.388-08:00EMORY CLASS OF 2013!!!I THOUGHT I POSTED THIS BEFORE BUT I GUESS I DIDNT!!! His meeting with the director went well and he felt that he shone in his interviews. We have been praying hard that he is accepted to Emory because it is his dream school and it would be very convenient to live by Atlanta instead of Macon. Please pray with us!! The admissions committee meeting met today...I hope they felt inspired.

Sharyl is training for the Turtle Crawl Triathlon and trying to build up her running stamina.

Juno is as happy as a clam, growing tall and muscular. She loves chasing us around when we are on the bikes. She picks on Harley often and is getting better at learning new tricks. (She now knows "shake", "BANG!! You're dead!!" and she is learning to hold a treat on her nose until we say "OK" and then she can eat it. She is a master at sit, stay, and down).Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-87654869283598965332008-11-27T14:30:00.000-08:002008-11-27T14:31:34.203-08:00Sonny got an interview at Emory for January!!! Woohoo!!!
Sharyl is thinking about taking some culinary classes at the local college to fine tune some skills and maybe open a catering company in a few years...what do you think?Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-69047450406654341482008-11-01T11:55:00.000-07:002008-11-01T11:58:31.904-07:00Introducing the future Dr. Centrael Tyson EvansSonny received his acceptance to Mercer School of Medicine last Wednesday. We are so proud of him!! We are still waiting to hear from Morehouse and he got an interview invitation for Meharry. However, Mercer is ideal for us. Congratulations love!!Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-54152501896078647362008-10-17T18:37:00.000-07:002008-10-17T18:50:05.958-07:00So close yet so extremely far away...Sonny and I have been apart 10 days, 4 hours, and several minutes. It has been challenging and feels like much longer than the actual week and a half. Sonny had multiple exams, a mountain of homework and tons of papers to grade and feels the stress of it daily. I seem to be on the opposite spectrum--trying to find ways to fill my time with distraction so I dont ache for him. Juno keeps me company as best she can but seems to be severely attracted to Sidney (I think he reminds her of Sonny and she misses her daddy too) so we have to share her. Also since Juno broke her leg is unable to get outside for her usual exercise so she is misbehaving which makes our time together a little stressful for me. Work is interesting and keeps me running, which I appreciate. I find myself looking forward to Mondays with a strange joy. My in-laws are wonderful, as usual, and I try to speak with my family often. Sonny had his first two med school interviews at the beginning of this month (Morehouse and Mercer) and we are waiting for an acceptance. Hopefully he gets a call from MCG to broaden his options. I am looking forward to October 28th when I can be reunited with Sonny for a few days. Stay tuned...Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-30970019070150035782008-09-12T08:26:00.001-07:002008-09-12T08:34:24.042-07:00NightmaresWe both keep having these nightmares lately and I dont know where they are coming from. Last night I kept trying to pick up my son from a shady daycare and everyone was in my way and stopping me. Sonny kept stopping to talk to people, this fat girl got on the back of my scooter and I had to find a tactful way to tell her to get off because I couldnt maneuver with her on (lol, stupid, I know), and then all of a sudden I ended up on an airplane that flew just above the ground. Sonny told me that the night before he was having weird dreams too. Maybe its something in our food or watching House right before bed.

Juno's wound has finally healed and I am trying to work more on obedience with her since she had some minor relapses while we were on vacation. We are searching for my next car--looks like its going to be a Honda Element. We have ONE DAY to buy it when we move to Georgia so I am stressing out. I'm not looking forward to October 5th when Sonny is back in Utah and I am in Georgia without him...Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-50986295285636584812008-09-04T17:53:00.001-07:002008-09-04T18:06:18.637-07:00This Week in ReviewGood things that happened this week:
1. Sonny got an interview for Morehouse (hopefully he gets a few more)
2. I quit my job
3. We got paid
4. Prayers were answered
5. I [finally] cleaned the house
6. Scuba is getting better
7. Juno stopped peeing in her kennel and is an intimidating guard dog now (she has a deep manly bark now)
8. We spent some time with Dan and Erin
9. Sonny started his last semester at BYU
10. I'm NOT pregnant (hee hee hee, not yet anyway--soon enough)

Bad things that happened this week:
1. I quit my job
2. The house is clean (so now I have to keep it that way...uh-oh...)
3. Juno got cut and keeps ripping off her bandage

So, all in all a pretty good week. I'm leaving for Georgia at the beginning of October with Sonny for his interview. The downside is that I am staying behind without him. However, this is a huge blessing for us because I will have a good paying job and be able to support our family. I finally am done with a job that was not good for us and so many doors have been opened that it could only be a blessing straight from God.Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3157736615060392907.post-37053566525452745592008-05-22T19:36:00.001-07:002008-05-22T19:43:24.187-07:00So here we are in Athens, visiting Sonny's parents. Its been a fun trip so far: Sonny has been 4-wheeling with the guys and I went shopping at a huge outlet mall. We've been to the lake house, to Moorehouse Med School for a tour, Sonny went golfing with his brother Dn, and even sat in on a surgery at the office. Sonny has applied for med schools and we are waiting for his MCAT results. We have spent a lot of time just relaxing and I dont think either of us is ready to go back to Utah just yet. This weekend we are going to lake house for some fun in the sun. However, I think the highlight of our trip has been the birth of our precious niece, Georgia Dawn Bryant. She was born on May 19th (as is most of the family, which makes it even better) I think around 8:30 pm. She is probably the prettiest little girl I've ever seen. We are so excited to spoil her.Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570792258718644430noreply@blogger.com1
